Franklin Wrestler of the Year

Simon James is the Franklin Flyer wrestler of the year. Simon finished his career as a State Champion and in the process broke his own season takedown record. He now owns the school record for takedowns in a season and career. This season he had 151 and his total for his career is 313. Simon finished the state tournament in dominating fashion. He won with scores of 6-4, 17-4, 10-2 and 4-2 in the finals with all of his opponents points coming in the form of escapes. In his career Simon was a two time state finalist and State Champion. Also Ethan Kahrs and Justin Weaver finished the season as state medalists. Ethan bounced back from his semi-final loss with two wins and a 3rd Place medal. His 34 wins this season tied the school record and he tied the season pin record with 28. He is a junior and looks to be a threat to win a gold medal next year. Justin ended his career as a state medalist and finished in 6th place.

Franklin Flyers Wrestler of the Week

This week there are 6 wrestlers of the week. These six will be traveling to omaha to represent the Flyers at the state tournament. The Flyers finished 4th overall and had three champions at the D-3 District Tournament. The Champs were Simon James at 112 lbs, Ethan Kahrs at 130 lbs, and Justin Weaver at 140 lbs. These three all have experience at the state tourney and should be in the hunt to win a state title. Also Cody Dorn finished in second place at 135 lbs, Russell Walton finished in 3rd place at 160 lbs, and Logan James finished in 4th place at 145 lbs. The Flyers are carrying plenty of momentum into the state tourney with Kahrs and Weaver riding 28 and 29 match winning streaks and Simon James has only one loss this season. Ethan Kahrs

The wrestler of the week for the final week of the regular season is Ethan Kahrs. Ethan has not lost a match all year at his weight class of 130 lbs. He has dominated all of his competition and has also won 25 consecutive matches. Ethan is the reigning twister king and has 12 twisters heading into the district tournament. Ethan placed first at the Southwest Invite this week and the Flyers finished in 2nd place. Other Champions were Simon James who currrently has 137 takedowns, Garrett Rubendall, and Justin Weaver. Justin also has 25 consecutive wins and is looking to finish his senior year strong. This week the Flyers travel to Amherst for the district tournament, Feb 9th and 10th.

Justin Trout

Justin is wrestler of the week for his outstanding performance at the Red Cloud Invite. Going into the tournament it did not look very promising but Trout sparked the team to victory over the host Warcats. After a first round setback Justin came back with a flurry-posting three falls. His last pin was against a foe from Red Cloud and it sealed the team title for the Flyers. The Flyers had three champions- Simon James, Ethan Kahrs, and Justin Weaver. Weaver finished the week in dominating fashion using two strong third periods to post a pair of bonus point victories. He had a tech fall in the Doniphan/Trumball dual and major decision in the finals saturday.

Garrett Rubendall

With his tenacious attacking style Garrett pinned both of his opponents in under 1 minute. His pins were in times of :15 and :44. The Flyers finished as TVC Conference runners up overall and had 4 champions. Other Champions included Simon James, Ethan Kahrs who had an :08 fall via twister and Justin Weaver. Runner ups were Tony Garvin, Mike Pedersen, Cody Dorn, Logan James and Tower Robinson. This Week the Flyers will travel to Doniphan/Trumball thursday for a dual and to the Red Cloud Invite on Saturday.

Justin Weaver

Justin Weaver dominated this weeks competition placing first at the Minden Invite and helped lead the Flyers to a 50-24 win over Southern Valley. This week Justin had three pins a tech fall and a major decision in the finals at Minden. Ethan Kahrs also placed first at Minden with three falls. Simon James, Cody Dorn and Russell Walton finished as Runners-Up. The Flyers are looking good overall and only one month from the state tournament remains. It is at the Omaha Quest Center Feb 15-17.

Simon James

This weeks wrestler of the week is Simon James. Simon dominated the Flyer Invite on his way to the championship and also claimed the Most Outstanding Wrestler award. He had three falls in a combined 5:22 to lead the team to a 3rd place finish. He is only 10 away from breaking his own takedown record of 98 in a season. Other Champs were Ethan Kahrs and Justin Weaver. Placing runner up was Garrett Rubendall.

Cody Dorn

Cody won both the Axtell and Wilcox/Hildreth Invites this week. Tuesday at Axtell he defeated a state medalist to win the championship match. Then on saturday he won both his matches by fall to win the Wilcox/Hildreth invite. Cody's season record now stands at 10-1. Other Double champs were: Simon James who avenged his loss in last year's state championship match to Mitch Lundstrom of Amherst 9-3, Garrett Rubendall who remains undefeated, Ethan Kahrs, Justin Weaver, and Russell Walton. Also winning at Wilcox/Hildreth was Tony Garvin, Logan James, and Jordan James.

Ethan Kahrs

This week Ethan pinned all three of his opponents in times of 1:40, 0:57, 0:55. He helped score bonus points in the KHS JV Dual victory and also won the 130 lbs championship at Southern Valley. Those bonus points helped boost the Flyers to their first tournament championship of the 2006-07 season. Other Southern Valley Champs were Simon James-112lbs, Garrett Rubendall-125 lbs and Justin Weaver-140 lbs. Earning runner-up finishes were Tony Garvin-103 lbs and Cody Dorn-135 lbs. Also Coach Keiswetter competed in the UNK Loper Open and finished runner-up.

Simon James

The wrestler of the week for the Ravenna Invite is Simon James. Simon dominated all of his opponents winning by scores of 25-10, Fall in 2:56 and a 15-2 major decision on his way to the 112lb championship. He also racked up an impressive 21 takedowns. Other top performers were Garrett Rubendall-1st place at 125lbs and Justin Weaver-2nd at 140 lbs.
